Sweet potato trial cultivation site ( Koishikawa Botanical Garden )

In 1735, during the Kyoho era, it attracted attention as a famine food.

This is one of the places where Aoki Konyo conducted experimental cultivation of sweet potatoes.

The trial was successful, and sweet potato cultivation spread throughout the country.

There is a monument erected in 1921 (Taisho 10) to commemorate his achievements.

Its color and shape are somewhat reminiscent of a sweet potato.
