Rihei Shima, "Sweet Potato Monument" (located within Dairenji Temple)

In the mid-Edo period, the spread of "Terada sweet potatoes" in the Terada area and

It was erected as an expression of respect and admiration for Mr. Rihei Shima, who dedicated himself to its cultivation.

It is said that the "Terada potato" saved many villagers suffering during the Great Kyoho Famine.

The tombstone, measuring 86 cm in length, is carved with sweet potato vines and leaves.
